You are formally invited to step over the threshold and join Liminal Tales, a regular
theatre event where stories of the uncanny and bizarre from a hand-picked group of
authors are read before a live audience with plenty of opportunities for socialisation,
networking, and fun. Think of it like reading ghost stories around the campfire, but
instead of being in the woods, you’re in the Black Lodge from Twin Peaks.
What exactly is a liminal tale?
A liminal tale can roughly be described as horror, but it’s not the horror of an axe murderer or a
giant monster with teeth and claws. A liminal tale is something more subtle, more dreamlike...
A liminal tale is coming home to find that everything you own has been replaced with an exact copy.
It’s not quite knowing what is real and what isn’t.
It’s a world out of shape, where the rules of reality have changed.
It’s discovering that the past is far from gone and the present is just an illusion.
It can be chilling and scary, but also playful.
Perhaps a funny story will turn nasty or a nasty story turn funny. We are looking for a surrealism
and a playfulness of tone seen in the likes of David Lynch films or the stories of Franz Kafka,
Blindboy, or Robert Shearman.
Whether your story elicits a gasp of horror or an uncomfortable laugh, if it straddles the line and
tightropes over the uncanny valley, we want to hear it!
